TAMILNADU


The state of Tamil Nadu, from tourists’ perspective has been one of the favourite destinations for enjoying vacations or holidays. The geographical demarcation of the state is that it is bordered with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh from the northern side while state like Kerala is located from its western side. Further, even some of the sightseeing attractions of the land have geographical demarcations as Calimere and Mudamalai wildlife sanctuary are located in its eastern and western tips where as Pulicat Lake and Kanyakumari are respectively located from the northern and southernmost extreme of the state. The land also feels the holy sanctity of the River Cauvery which flows from Coorg, a place in Karnataka. Chennai (old Madras) is the capital city of the state which is full of beautiful beach resorts, a unique place for tourists.

The state of Tamil Nadu located in the south eastern region of Indian peninsula has its southernmost tip of Kanyakumari which is confluence of Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. The area of the state is expanded about 130,058 km² and the population here is over 62 crore. Sometimes the state also experienced water-logged situations in result with severe perennial rain which overflows the rivers like Cauvery. Tamil is the state language of the land but there are people who follow different religions like Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Jainism in the state.

History


The state of Tamil Nadu experienced the rule of three chief dynasties – the Chola dynasty from the east, Pandyas from the central area where as from the western extreme it was ruled by Cheras dynasty. It is also said that during Sangam Age which is defined as the classical period of the state in which Tamil literature flourished has carried on for over 300 years. The period between 7th and 8th centuries, the state witnessed the rising growth of Pallava dynasty whose testimonial record of their rule is in the monuments situated in Mamallapuram place.

The site was a tempting delight of many outsiders like the British, French, Danes, and Dutch which bore seeds of conflicts among them to get hold of it. The British finally came as a winner while some of the areas like Pondicherry and Karaikal were under the control pf French. When there was British rule, most of the states from southern India became one region which was collectively named as Madras Presidency which is later said to have been disbanded into another name called - Tamil Nadu.

Culture of Tamilnadu


During the rule of British government, the state was gifted with lots of cathedrals, buildings made out of skilled architectural Indo-Saracen fashion. The state, in spite of being in touch with modern fashions and all, the land has still not lost its age-old cultural legacy gifted from the ancient generations as keepsake. More so, even before the advent of British rule, the state was epicentre of Pallavan culture. You will see different varieties of South Indian cuisine, stretched beds of beaches, contemporary shopping malls, hall and movie theatres and so many more that reflect the cultural essence of the state – traditional cum contemporary form.

Places To Visit in Tamilnadu


Chennai
The capital city of the state apart from being epicentre of many sightseeing charms is also a chief access point for domestic as well foreign tourists. Here in the city you will see blends of different and fascinating historical landmarks and buildings fraught in almost all over the land from ancient era. Some of them are Kapaleeshwarar temple, Parthasarathy temple, San Thome Basilica, Fort St. George, Marina Beach and Guindy National Park.

Rameshwaram
This stunning island holds great veneration among Hindu pilgrims; as the land is said to be a marking place of the mythological bridge made by Lord Rama to go Sri Lanka to save his wife Sita from the clutch of demon Ravana. Since then, Rameshwaram temple is visited by thousands of devotees to pay their pray to Lord Rama and seek his blessings.

Kanyakumari
There is no doubt that the place offers quite natural attractions of sunrise and sunsets; a unique visual sights seen especially on the full moon days. The place is a beach sight also famous for sands with multi-hued colour giving a striking visual appeal. To see the whole-heartedly view of the blue of the sea, you can go to a lighthouse of the place and from there you will have the panoramic view of your desire.

Udhagamandalam
This is a hill station of south India which was discovered by the British in early 19th century. Also known as Ooty, the site has some must see attractions like Botanical garden, St. Stephen’s Church and Government Museum.

In addition to the above, the tourists can also see fairs and festivals of the state celebrated by people in their respective traditional outfits. Apart from the famous festival Pongal, the other festivals celebrated in the state are Thaipusam, Chithirai, Mahamagam and the Dance Festival.
