RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK


Ranthambore National Park, one of the biggest and most distinguished national parks in Northern India, is situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan. The park is about 130 km from Jaipur and once served as the hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur. Today it serves as a major wildlife tourist spot and attracts a vast number if tourists and wildlife enthusiasts from all across the globe. The park is a heaven for wildlife photographers and lovers for its beauty and chrm. Spread over an area of 1,334 sq km, the park contains its nearby sanctuaries like - the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary. It’s mainly famous for its tigers and considered one of the best places to see the majestic predators in its natural habitat.

In the park, tigers can be easily seen even during the day time. The tigers here delight tourists while hunting and taking proper care of their young ones. For the pictorial ruins that dot the wildlife park, it’s also rated as a famous heritage site. A visit to Ranthambore National Park ensures that tourists see tigers roaming around alongside seeing the verdant greenery, a wide range of other species of chirpy birds and animals.

The best visiting season of Ranthambore national park is during the months of October - March and April to June.

Flora in Ranthambore National Park


Ancient Banyan Trees, Dhok & Pipal trees and clusters of mango trees excellently dot the landscape. Gigantic rock formations, vertical scarps, perennial lakes and streams would be seen all around the park. With an amazing blend of impenetrable forests and open bush land, the terrain of the park entices those who love wildlife and forests. Dhok here is the most prominent tree.

With 300 trees, 50 aquatic plants, 272 birds, 12 reptiles together with the Marsh Crocodile & amphibians and 30 mammals, the Ranthambore National Park is a true delight in itself for its diversity and amazing blend of forest and animal species.

Intense diversity of flora and fauna catches the attention of those who love nature at its natural and verdant best. Tigers have always been the park's pride and make it the best place in India to see them lively. Besides tigers, tourists here get to see a large numbers of Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Gazzelle, Boars, Mongoose, Indian Hare, Monitor Lizards and a large number of birds.

Ranthambore Fort & Jogi Mahal
The park found its name from the Ranthambhore Fort, which sits on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Park. The fort is rated as the oldest existing fort in Rajasthan and dates back to the 10th century. Towards the foot of the fort is the Jogi Mahal which is famous for having the second-largest Banyan tree in India.

By Air
Jaipur at 145-kms is the nearest airport from Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary.

By Rail
Ranthambore National Park is around 11-kms away from Sawai Madhopur railway station that lies on the Delhi to Bombay trunk route.

By Road
A good network of buses easily links Sawai Madhopur, the nearest town from Ranthambore to all the major cities within the state of Rajasthan.
