MANIPUR
Manipur is a pretty state located at north eastern corner of India. The place is also known as Jewelled Land and offers fascinating blends of sightseeing attractions like superb work of arts, natural scenery and many more to infuse the tourists with lifetime of memory of the state. The beauty of the site has been worded by many satisfied tourists like the first Prime Minister of free India Late Jawahar Lal Nehru who termed the place as “Jewel of India”. Historical Background
The state of Manipur experienced the British rule as a princely state followed by the defeat of the state in Anglo Manipuri conflict. The state lost its brave son called Major General Paona Brajabashi in a combat with British army in the battleground of Khongjom. The British captured city Imphal and sentenced two general Thangla and Yuvraj Tekendrajit to death. The history turned and after freedom of India, Manipur got its lost prestige as a fully democratic state. Later in October 15, 1949, the state became a part of Indian union and on January 21, 1972 the state became an absolute part of India.
Culture
There are eight sisters of northeast India, out of which Manipur is one of them. With capital city Imphal, the place is often coined as Jewel of India due to its pristine scenic beauty. The overall place of Manipur is decked with its unique cultural traits thus enabling the land create its own individual identity. The classical dance of Manipur is blend of its self reflection of cultural traits which is totally different from others found in other states of India. So to say, every citizen of the state is quite aware of their culture and you would be surprise to know that there is hardly any girl in the state who can’t sing and dance. This clearly shows how deeply the people of Manipur attached with their cultures.
Major Tourist Places
Moirang
The place is mainly famous for being the epicentre of Meitei folk culture as well as a home to pre-historic Hindu temple dedicated to lord Thangjinga. This is the very site where the INA hoisted the national flag of India in April 1944 during the freedom fight of India.
Loktak Lake & Sendra Island
This site is quite famous as being the largest freshwater lake in the north-eastern side of India. The site rich with its natural traits is a perfect destination for birds. The beauty of the lake engulfed in pristine presence of natural sceneries make the place as one of the most favourite for tourists coming to celebrate picnics or other sort of enjoyment. Further, there is a tourist cottage amidst Sendra Island which offers quite picturesque view of the surrounding of the place.
Langthabal
With presence of ancient relics, places of historical importance, architectural temples and ceremonial houses; the place situated at indo-Burma road in a small hill area is an ideal destination for the tourists. You will also view pine and jackfruit trees standing in a row creating peasant eyesight.
Kaina
The place holds religious importance for the Hindu as it is related to Lord Govindajee, the Lord Krishna. Apart from seeing the temple you will also see some places with extremely beautiful charm shrouded with hilly shrubs and natural surroundings.
Khwairamband Bazar
This is a unique market located in the heart of capital Imphal. As being located in the prime location, the market is apparently crowded with people at shops and stores selling different sort of items. The special feature of the market is that it is a female-dominated market where as much as 3000 mothers run the stalls.
Ukhrul
Being one of the best hill stations of Manipur, the place is also famed with housing district headquarter of East Manipur. Siroy Lily’ and lime caves are main charm of the town.
