KOTA


Located on the banks of Chambal River, Kota is one of the significant industrial centres of Rajasthan. Kota prides for having the Asia's largest fertilizer plant, precision instrument unit and atomic power station close by. On the basis of chemicals, fertilizers, synthetic fibers, tyrecord and sophisticated instruments, the city is known the world over. Apart from these significant aspects, the city has always been a great tourists’ attraction for its striking and picturesque locations. These beautiful sites have made Kota a place to attract a great number of tourists from all parts of the globe. Kota catches the attention of tourists for its colossal forts, splendid palaces, charming waterways, exotic wildlife and delicate fresco paintings.

Its magnificent fort is certainly the most striking aspect as it overlooks the modern Chambal Valley Project. The city also has many dams, like Kota Barrage, Gandhi Sagar, Rana Pratap Sagar, Jawahar Sagar, etc. Apart from an old palace facing the Kota Barrage, dating back to the time of the Hada rule over Hadoti, the city has many other monuments like the Brij Raj Bhawan Palace, Jag Mandir and island Palace, imposing havelis and royal cenotaphs, etc. All these structures are a true testament to the bygone era and easily bring forth the glorious past of the city.

Major Attractions in Kota


Maharao Madho Singh Museum
The Maharao Madho Singh museum, situated in the old palace, houses a rich collection of Rajput miniature paintings (Kota school), sculptures, murals, arms, etc. It also showcases some artistic items used by the former rulers of Kota.

Government Museum
The Government Museum, situated in the Brijvilas Palace, showcases a wide range of rare coins, manuscripts, sections of Hadoti sculpture, etc. The most noteworthy article on show is a sculpted statue brought here from Baroli, which is well-known for its splendour and past record.

Kishore Sagar & Jag Mandir
Kishore Sagar Lake, constructed in 1346, is a scenic lake and houses a palace, Jag Mandir in the centre. The palace has been constructed of red sandstone and appears like a picture of tranquillity standing in the middle of the lake. Nearby is Keshar Bagh which houses some royal cenotaphs. Boating facilities are also available at the lake.

Chambal Garden
Chambal garden is a popular picnic spot and situated close to Amar Niwas Palace. Boating facility in the Chambal River is also available here.

Haveli of Devtaji
The remarkable and good looking Haveli of Devta Shridharji, right in the middle of the city, is adorned with striking murals. The rooms are magnificently decorated with some astonishing miniature paintings.

Kota Barrage
Kota Barrage is an ideal venue for excursions and evening walks.

Kansua Temple
Kansua temple is famous for a rare four-faced Shivlinga that it enshrines.

Other Attractions


Mathuradheesh temple, Yatayat Park, Adhar Shila, Budh Singh Bafna Haveli, Godavari Dham Mandir, Bhitria Kund, Haryali Water Park, etc. are some other popular attractions in and around the city.

Climate


From April to late October, Kota faces the summer season and the average temperature in the daytime stands somewhere around 42.6° C. In the winters, which are usually quite enjoyable, the average temperature falls in the range of 29.7° C (max) to 9° C (min). Besides some chilly nights in the winter season and the annual average rainfall in Kota of approximately 885.6 mm, November to early April is the best time to visit the city.

How to Reach Kota


By Air
The Kota airport is connected to Jaipur, which is in turn, is linked to major cities like, Delhi, Mumbai and Udaipur.

By Rail
The Kota Railway station falls on the Delhi-Mumbai rail route. A number of trains link Kota to various other cities and towns of India.

By Road
A good network of roads connects Kota to important cities in Rajasthan and neighboring cities/states such as Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bundi.
