The state of Kerala presenting just one percent of the land mass, has been one of the most tourist-visited places thanks to its plenitude of various sightseeing attractions. The impression of the state cast a rural image with culturally and scenically varied population living in hamlets. More so, the state is brilliantly endowed with ten wildlife sanctuaries, two national parks and two bird sanctuaries; all giving quite beautiful wildlife experience to the visitors.

The state is located in the southern part of India with its geographical border with neighbouring state Tamil Nadu from the eastern border of India also known as the Western Ghat Mountain. The sightseeing charms varies from long stretched golden beaches to awesome and cool hill stations and densely forested lands. These are just tip of the iceberg among various attractions of the state. The people of Kerala are very friendly and extend warm reception to the tourists. Cultivation friendship with them is an opportunity to maximise the beauty of the land as they are quite familiar with them. These people are always proud of their cultures but also like martial arts and other arts forms like Theyyam.

History of the land

As there is no sufficient historical data that could exactly explain the real history of the land, we have some information based on the assumptions and myths of the state. According to them, Parashurama, a great sage of warily nature got infuriated with Kshatriya kings and started killing them one by one. Later, he went to a galaxy of learned men to seek a way of penance for his past misdeeds. He was asked to get back the lands conqured by him to the Brahmins to absolve from eternal damnation. He willingly agreed to that and sat in penance at Gokarnam. In consequence to hard mediation, he received boons from Varuna and the goddess Earth. Then he went to Kanya Kumari and hurled his battle axe towards the nortern side across the water. Miraculously, the water dried off and the left over part of land was called the land of Parasurama which we call the modern Kerala.

Culture of the state

There is no doubt in the fact that the state holds great cultural assets manifest in its various hindu temples, mosques and the churches made by the Portuguese. Other blends of fascinating blends of cultural things that the state proudly owns are outstanding paintings in frescos that reflect quite a distinctive local tradition of the land. Dance like Kathakali is one of the most awesome viewing sights of the land. The famous Sanskrit drama called Koottiyattam is the only legacy of the state presenting its existing theatre traditons with the performance by the Chakkiars of the state.
