HARYANA


Located at northern part of India, the state of Haryana offers blends of several exciting and breathtaking tourists attractions; an assets for which the state is widely known. The state of Haryana has brilliantly kept alive the secular personality of India which is evident with lots of places of religious importance in the state symbolising stately dignified architectural and culture historical background of the golden period of the land. Temples of Hindu not only holds religious sanctity in the heart of devotees but they also convey best architectural as well as aesthetical creativity of the people of the state. Gurudwaras, Churches, Muslim shrines and blends of remarkable historical places like Jyotisar, Kurukshetra, Thaneshwar, Panchkula and Pehowa offer unforgettable experience of the state.

History


Historically, Haryana remained as a part of Punjab province over a long period of time. Some assume that people from Indus valley civilisation settled down at Mittathal and Naurangabad of the state and on the bank of Saraswati flourished Vedic civilisation including composition of famous Rig-Veda’s hymns.

Even in the Hindu mythology, the state finds its description in epic Mahabharata as Kurukshetra. Moving ahead, we find the state later experienced ruling of the King Harshavardhana who established his capital at Thanesar, a site near Kurushetra. Later, Prithviraj Chauhan who built a huge fortification at Hansi was defeated by Muhammad Ghori in Terrain battle. The history also witnessed three famous battles of Panipat occurred in Panipat town of the state.

Culture of the State


Haryana brilliantly represented the image of India through its rich cultures comprising people from different races, beliefs and faiths. You will feel the glimpse of the culture through folk dances, dramas, music and arts and from various fairs and festivals. As mentioned above, the people of the state are full of life and for them life is itself a form of celebration. Languages that are spoken here are Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi but Haryanvi and Jatu are local dialects spoken mostly in villages. The state has still kept alive its former culture despite several political instabilities.

Major Tourist Attractions


Sita Mai Temple
The temple, dedicated to goddess Sita is located at 19 kms away from Nilokheri. Though, ordinarily built but the interior ornamentation of the shrine is quite beautiful. The temple is said to have been tempered with by Muslims subsequently resulting demolition of the shrine. Later, it was re-built regardless to any original patterns. The shrine is said to be the spot that swallowed Sita inside followed by her appeal to vindicate her chastity.

Sultanpur National Park
Situated at the distance of 46 kms away from the South-West of Delhi, the park offers exotic wildlife experience to the tourists. Annunciated as a water bird reserve in 1972, Sultanpur Natoinal Park also houses small museums and library, an ideal place to enlighten you of different birds and creatures of the park. The park is mainly suitable for bird watching. You will spot various birds flying, swimming or wading through water of lakes. In addition, you will spot birds like grey pelicans, grey and pond herons, cormorants, egrets, painted storks; a sight full of exotic experience.

Panchkula
Comprising one and only hill station of Haryana Morni Hills, Panchkula is a place offering enchanting scenic view of nature. Pay a visit to the place during monsoon which engulfs the whole area with pristine natural scenery. You can spot tigers and panthers roaming in the forests while foxes, jackals and other wildlife are common visual sight.

Panipat
This is the very place where famous battle of Panipat was ensued boring the seed of Mughal dynasty in India around 15th century AD. See the beautiful Havelis a tomb of Sufi saint Qalandar Shah.

Thaneswar
Since the place houses many temples of religious importance, this is a great pilgrimage of Hindu. Temples you will see here are Maa Bhadra Kali and Sthanesvar Mahadev located in the town. During Navratra, a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is thronged with thousands of devotees to seek the divine blessings.

Pehowa
Another place of temples, Pehowa is located at 27 kms away from Thaneswar besides river Saraswati. The place named after the king Prithu who was said to have sat by the side of river Saraswati and served water to thirsty visitors. The charm of the site is Lord Shiva’s temple which surprisingly has no linga inside like other temple of the deity in India. There is enshrined Panch Mukhi Mahadev (Five faced Shiva) in the temple; a unique occurrence of its nature.
