AMRITSAR


Amritsar is one of the most beautiful cities in the state of Punjab, India. The city was led foundation by the fourth Guru of Sikh community, Guru Ram Das in 1574. It was named as Amrit Sagar – The Ocean of the Nectar of Immortality. The city is known for its historical and religious buildings. The city is also known for the Jaliawala Bagh massacre happened during freedom fighting of the nation. Apart from being a must-visit tourist destination, Amritsar is also famous for being commercial land of different trades.

Best time to visit : The ideal month to visit the city is from October to November.

Climate


During summer, the city experiences painful hot climate with the temperature 43 degree Celsius maximum and 25.2 degree Celsius minimum. In contrast to summer, the winter season takes the temperature of the city at the freezing point of 18 degree Celsius. During monsoon, the city experiences uninterrupted rainfall.

Tourists Attractions


Golden Temple
Golden temple adds lustre to the reputation of Amritsar. Constructed in 1547 AD, the temple is the oldest Gurudwaras of Sikh. “Guru Di Nagri” is the nick name of the temple given by the devotees. The temple is beautified with lush green surroundings and a small lake. This sacred pilgrimage site is said to have spelled with divine power and as such large number of devotees regardless their casts & creeds pay a trip to this holy site once in their lifetime.

Durgianna Temple
Durgianna Temple is one of the most sacred and religious Hindu pilgrimage sites. The temple was named as Durgiana temple just because of the historical linking of the place with Goddess Durga. It was constructed in the 20th Century with matching architectural style of Golden temple. The temple is also known by the name Lakshmi Narain.

Jalianwala Bagh
At 400 metres away from the Golden Temple is the Jalianwala Bagh. The site is mostly known for the brutal massacre took place in April 13, 1919 when some troops of malcontent British soldiers stormed into the place and gunned down all the people attending a peaceful rally there. Now, the place is open for tourists and you will see the bullet marks on the walls telling the tale of the cruel history.

Ram Bagh
This beautiful garden was made to commemorate the founder of Amritsar city, Guru Ram Das. The palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is located in the Bagh. The palace bears insignia of royal dynasty through its intricate design. The palace also features rare collection of paintings, old coins, weapons and a replica of Kohinoor diamond.

Govindgarh Fort
The fort was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1760. Also known as the 'Bhangian Da Quila'” the fort was made with special fortifications techniques to ensure safety of king’s treasure and the subjects. Later, the British Government brought the fort under their control and after independence; the Indian army took the fort under their control. Presently, some efforts are being made to change the fort a tourist site.
